MAPLight.org Releases ‘OpenSecrets Open Data’ Software

July 23, 2009

July 28, 2009 - MAPLight.org is committed to supporting the open source community as well as the greater government transparency movement. We are pleased to announce the release of new software to help the sharing and use of data about money and politics.

With the hard work of programmer Neil Drumm and encouragement from the Center for Responsive Politics (‘CRP’) , MAPLight.org has created and released software to help other websites import CRP’s campaign contribution data about members of Congress. The software is a module for the Drupal content management platform titled OpenSecrets Open Data. It loads OpenSecrets bulk data for MAPLight.org and in its current state supports the following campaign finance data tables:

  • Candidates
  • FEC Committees (PACs, Candidate and Party Committees)
  • PACs to Candidates
  • PACs to PACs
  • Individual Contributions

The module has been released under the GPL V2 license. Licensing for the data this module loads is available from OpenSecrets.org.
