MapLight, a technology-driven nonprofit dedicated to improving U.S. democracy, is seeking an experienced Engineering Manager to lead our software development projects. This position is full-time and available for remote work from anywhere.

This position reports to the President of MapLight, Daniel G. Newman.

Typical software projects at MapLight include:

• Systems for state and local governments to provide groundbreaking transparency for campaign finance. http://powersearch.sos.ca.gov/quick-search.php
• The Voter’s Edge voter guide, serving millions of voters with nonpartisan information about what’s on their ballots. https://votersedge.org/ca

Responsibilities Include

• Oversee and manage MapLight’s software projects, working with our engineering firm partner to ensure our products are robust, scalable and delivered on-schedule.
• Work with the product and design teams to understand end-user requirements and deliver results.
• Contribute technically yourself, from architecture definition to product delivery.
• Collaborate with other MapLight staff on how technology can best meet our organizational and social impact goals.

Required Qualifications

• 3+ years’ experience managing software projects with a track record of timely, successful product delivery.
• Excellent communication skills, including communicating cross-culturally and across time zones.
• Excellent project management skills.
• Self-motivated and detail-oriented.
• Proficient in one or more of PhP, NodeJS, MySQL, and .NET, able to make hands-on technical contributions.
• Experience with cloud services such as AWS or Azure.
• Experience working in an agile development environment.
• Personal dedication to MapLight’s mission and work.

How to Apply

The salary for this position is $120,000 plus benefits. For candidates with more than 10 years experience and an exceptional track record, we would consider a higher salary range.

This position can be filled remotely. MapLight is located in downtown Berkeley, near BART (due to COVID-19, we are all currently working from home). This position includes fully-covered health benefits, generous paid vacation, and a 403(b) plan.
