October 31, 2014 -- The race to represent northeastern Silicon Valley is decidedly competitive. Seven-term Democratic Representative Mike Honda is facing a tough reelection battle against fellow Democrat Ro Khanna, a patent attorney. Though they agree on most issues, the two candidates contrast in age and fundraising, with the 38-year-old tech industry darling Khanna pitted against the more traditionally liberal 73-year-old Honda.
Silicon Valley has strongly endorsed Khanna who has raised $2.6 million from tech companies like Google ($71,975), Y Combinator ($27,000), and Seagate ($26,800). In contrast, Rep. Honda has raised $2.4 million from Democratic stalwarts like the American Federation of Teachers (15,000), the United Food and Commercial Workers International Union ($12,000) and the National Education Association ($10,850). The latest polling shows a close race with 24 percent of voters still undecided.
