October 31, 2014 -- The race for California’s 7th congressional district is one of the most competitive in the country.  Democratic incumbent Representative Ami Bera narrowly wrestled the seat from Republican control in 2012. Bera is a physician, and served as the Sacramento County Chief Medical Officer as well as Associate Dean of Admissions at UC Davis. He has raised $2.6 million from top contributors like the University of California ($36,861) and Kaiser Permanente ($29,240).

The Republican candidate is Doug Ose, a former member of the U.S. House of Representatives.  Ose accumulated substantial wealth through investments in real estate and mini-storage, and was one of the richest members of Congress. He spent $600,000 of his own money during the June primary this year, and his campaign recently spent $1.3 million for TV ads. Ose’s campaign has raised $1.6 million including $252,600 from Ose Properties.
