October 31, 2014 -- Democratic Representative Julia Brownley is fighting for re-election in the hotly contested race for the 26th congressional district in Southern California. Brownley won the seat in 2012, after serving as a California State Asssemblywoman and as a member of the Santa Monica-Malibu school board. Brownley has raised $2 million for her campaign, and her top contributors include bankruptcy law firm, Pachulski Stang Ziehl & Jones ($18,700) and Lost Arrow ($13,000), the parent company of Patagonia.
Her opponent is Republican Assemblyman Jeff Gorell, an intelligence officer in the United States Navy Reserve and an attorney. Gorell previously worked as a Deputy District Attorney in Ventura County and as the director of communications for the California Manufacturers and Technology Association. His campaign has raised nearly $674,000, including contributions from California businesses Automotive Racing Products ($13,400), Northwest Excavating Company ($10,400), and Republican House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy’s Leadership PAC ($10,000).
