MapLight Joins Coalition Promoting Voting Rights and Public Safety Measures in Response to Coronavirus

Alec Saslow | March 18, 2020

As the public health and economic crisis spurred by the novel coronavirus continues to spread across the country, MapLight joined a broad coalition of organizations in urging elected officials to adopt and fund policies that will protect the integrity of elections during the outbreak.

The requests, organized by The Leadership Conference on Civil and Human Rights, include provisions aimed at making sure that voting for all Americans is fair, accessible, and safe. Recommendations include specific measures states and localities can take on issues including voter registration, early in-person voting, voting by mail, polling place adjustments, voter education, and combating misinformation.

“In times of crisis, our nation comes together for the sake of the country and our collective communities,” the letter to elected officials states. “We are in a state of national crisis now; that is why it’s all the more important that we band together to safeguard both our health and our democracy.  We must not sacrifice one for the other.”
