Gloria Allred, the attorney representing Nicky Diaz Santillan, the housekeeper involved in the illegal immigrant issue hovering over the gubernatorial campaign of GOP candidate Meg Whitman, has made multiple contributions to Democratic candidates in the past, including a $150 contribution to Jerry Brown in 2006 for his attorney general campaign. The Whitman campaign has accused Allred of having direct ties to Democratic nominee Jerry Brown, according to the LA Times.
Although Allred had contributed to Brown's campaign in May 2006, based on data from the National Institute of Money and State Politics (NIMSP), she has contributed no money to his current campaign for governor. NIMSP's contributions data includes figures through June 2010. Most of Allred's contributions have gone to candidates at the federal level. MAPLight.org's Contributions Search tool reveals that Allred's contributions have totaled over $6,000 dollars since 2000 to Democrats at the national level, including Sens. Hillary Clinton ($1,000), Barack Obama ($2,300), John Kerry ($2,000), Barbara Boxer ($333), and Reps. Dennis Kucinich ($250) and Diane Watson ($500).
The law firm Allred, Maroko & Goldberg, at which Allred is a partner, gave $250 to state lawmaker Elaine Alquist in 2003.
