April 27, 2011 - From Jan. 1, 2003 - Dec. 31, 2010, Charles Calderon received more in direct campaign contributions connected to the Payday/Title Loans interest group ($31,450) than any other member of the Assembly serving in the 2009-2010 or 2011-2012 legislative session. State Senator Ron Calderon, brother of Charles Calderon, is the top recipient among all legislators in that same time frame ($50,000).

April 18, 2011 - The California State Senate Governance and Finance Committee approved a bill (SB 469) sponsored by Juan Vargas that would require cities and counties to obtain an economic impact report before approving construction of "superstores" that sell groceries, such as Walmart, according to the Sacramento Bee.

April 13, 2011 - The California State Assembly passed AB 621 on April 7, with a straight party-line vote, 47-25, with Democrats in support and Republicans opposed (seven lawmakers did not vote). The bill was sponsored by the Consumer Attorneys of California, who in the 2010 election cycle, donated $274,650 to current assemblymembers, exclusively to Democrats.

A $150,000 contract agreement between the California Citizens Redistricting Commission and a voting rights law firm hit a bump in the road when it was revealed that the firm has made federal campaign contributions and is a registered federal lobbying firm, according to the Contra Costa Times.
