Sep 12, 2011 - The California Senate voted down a bill (AB 375) last week that would have made it easier for hospital workers to collect workers' compensation for certain ailments, including blood-borne illnesses. Republicans were united in opposition to the measure, and just enough Democrats joined them (or did not vote) for the bill to fail. The measure was opposed by the American Insurance Association, ALPHA Fund, Allied Managed Care, the California Hospital Association, the California Coalition on Workers' Compensation, and others.
- Senators who voted 'NO' received $118,537 on average from groups opposing the measure, twice the $58,256 they took in from groups that supported it.
- The five Democrats who voted against the bill or did not vote received an average of $146,070 from opposing groups, roughly twice as much as the $75,109 these groups donated to Democrats who voted in favor of the bill.
