Labor and Business Square Off in CA Special Senate Election

Voters in California’s 7th Senate District are set to cast ballots on Tuesday to fill the seat vacated by former State Senator Mark DeSaulnier, who was elected to Congress in November. Democratic member of the Assembly, Susan Bonilla, and Steve Glazer, the current Democratic mayor of Orinda, are competing for the seat on the May 19 ballot after having achieved the top two vote totals in the March 17 primary election. The race has been characterized as a debate between business and labor, with Assemblywoman Bonilla on the side of labor and Mayor Glazer on the side of business. According to The Sacramento Bee, outside spending has approached almost $7 million in this special election race.
