Aug. 8, 2011 - The Republican and Democrat leaders of the U.S. Senate and House of Representatives are tasked with appointing 12 members - divided equally by party and chamber - to populate the Joint Committee on Deficit Reduction. The committee is tasked with coming up with a deficit reduction plan by the end of the year. The group has also been referred to as the "Super Committee" as well as "Super Congress."
