Unemployment Benefits Bill Heads to President

July 22, 2010 - A bill to extend unemployment benefits (HR 4213) has cleared the House and was signed by President Obama on Thursday.

Supporters of the measure gave an average of $42,687 to members voting 'yes' compared to just $13,586 to members voting no, or slightly over three times as much. Opposition groups gave $26,239 to 'no' voters and $20,549 to 'yes' voters.

Labor unions in support of the measure gave 12 times as much on average to House members voting 'yes' ($22,720) compared to members voting 'no' ($1,837).
