Over two dozen Democrats broke from their party and voted against the measure. The 27 Democrats who aided in defeating the measure received $3,374 on average from mining and manufacturing interest groups and only $1,537 on average from interests tied to mining unions.

Dec. 9, 2010 - Based on a Dec. 8 vote in the Senate on a motion to proceed on S 3991, where a no vote would block consideration of final passage, lawmakers voting 'yes' received on average over $8,500 from groups and individuals associated with police and firefighter unions while, 'no' voters received just over $2,000 on average.
