Dec 1, 2010 - According to an article in Broadcast & Cable on Wednesday, GOP Reps. Joe Barton and Fred Upton took different approaches to the FCC's recent announcement on net neutrality rules. Regardless of which tactic proves to be more successful, broadband providers that stand to benefit from an unregulated Internet seem poised to enjoy the outcome.

Nov. 23, 2010 - An amendment proposed by Montana Sen. Jon Tester was designed to lift the burden on the smaller producers, which was then rejected by many of the larger producers. The Tester amendment has since been modified in order to overcome a Senate filibuster, and the compromise agreement will be included in the manager's amendment agreed to by Democrats and Republicans.

An article recently published at Mother Jones online highlights a skirmish within the Republican Party to chair the powerful House Energy and Commerce Committee. The article, titled "GOP Energy Committee Fight Gets Ugly" explains that Rep. Joe Barton (R-Tex.) is attempting to become chair of the committee even though he is term limited according to Republican Party rules. Amongst all individuals elected to Congress since the 109th Congress, Barton is the fourth highest recipient of contributions from the Energy and Natural Resources interest group dating back to the 2001 election cycle.
