On Tuesday, the Sacbee's CapitolAlert reported that Comcast has pulled an advertisement sponsored by the California Teacher's Association."The cable company Comcast has stopped running a TV ad by the California Teachers Association accusing Republican gubernatorial candidate Meg Whitman of proposing to lay off teachers and slash school budgets, according to Comcast spokesman Andrew Johnson, according to the report."

Sep. 13, 2010 - Major financial reform (HR 4173) was signed into law in July, but much of the heavy lifting over the measure's specific provisions is still to be done, according to a recent story in the New York Times. New authorities have been handed to government regulatory agencies, but these agencies still have to write the specific rules which will define how their new power is used.

According to the Sacramento Bee, "the California Chamber of Commerce is running a new 'issue-advocacy' ad touting Mike Villines, the Republican nominee for insurance commissioner, front and center." The article explains that the chamber is not required to disclose donor funding because the ad hailing Villines doesn't mention his run for insurance chief.

A recent article published by the LA Times sheds some light on the controversial $11.1 million bond water bond measure Proposition 18. Roll International, a company that stands to benefit by the measure, is a major contributor to the measure's champion Sen. Darell Steinberg.

Aug. 18, 2010 - News Corp., the media conglomerate that owns Fox News and the New York Post, has donated one million dollars to the Republican Governor's Association, according to the Washington Post. Over the past ten years, News Corp. employees have donated $397,976 to elected officials. Of this total, $243,076 has gone to Democrats and $156,900 to Republicans.

Aug. 10, 2010 - Teacher's unions, a group that will benefit from the legislation, contributed over $3 million in contributions to House members from June 3, 2008 to June 4, 2010. Teachers will see $10 billion in funds channeled to states, a return of over $3,000 for every $1 contributed. On average, House members voting in favor of passage received $11,920 from teacher's unions, while House members voting against passage on average only received $753 on average.
